Frequently asked questions
- My Mother has limited mobility but I would love her to participate in your classes. Can she engage fully in this kind of class?
- A resounding yes. Our Ballet 4 You and Ballet 4 Alzheimer’s classes are suitable for all levels of mobility. Participants can do a class entirely seated, or in a wheelchair, or attend a class that includes gentle barre exercises if they have better mobility.
- Does my mum need to wear ballet shoes or special dance gear in your classes?
- No, there is no need for ballet shoes or special gear. Participants can wear non-slip socks, be barefoot, or wear a soft shoe if the sole is flexible enough. We recommend wearing clothing that is comfortable and doesn’t restrict movement too much.
- Can my dad attend your classes in aged care?
- Yes, men are most welcome to attend our classes in aged care, Alzheimer’s groups, and community centres. In fact, we have some classes where the majority of participants are men.
- Do you need to have had previous ballet experience?
- No, there is no need to have had previous ballet or dance experience to participate in any of our Ballet 4 You or Ballet 4 Alzheimer’s classes.
- Do you offer private classes for individuals in both aged care homes and private residences? My mum finds group settings distracting.
- Yes, we take our private classes for individuals in aged care homes as well as private homes. We also have an online YouTube channel to reinforce an array of exercises specifically to do at home in between classes. Private classes can be arranged weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
- Is it safe?
- Yes, the Ballet 4 You and Ballet 4 Alzheimer’s classes are very safe. All content has been created with extensive research and development conducted since 2017 to ensure that classes are safe and effective to ensure that each participant enjoys the best physical, cognitive and uplifting experience possible. All classes are taught by our highly trained Ballet 4 You and Ballet 4 Alzheimer’s instructors.
- What are the differences between the seated and seated-and-barre lessons?
- Our seated lessons are entirely chair-based and focus on upper body mobility, gentle core engagement, and leg exercises to support circulation and balance. Our seated-and-barre lessons begin with seated warm-ups, then progress to modified ballet exercises at the barre. It’s designed for participants who are more mobile and includes more targeted work on posture, balance, and strength.
- Who are these classes suitable for?
- All of our class types are tailored for older adults. Seated and seated-and-barre are suitable for aged care residents, community groups, or individuals at home. We also have lessons designed specifically for those with mild cognitive impairment, early-stage Alzheimer’s, or dementia.
- Can these sessions be delivered in aged care settings?
- Yes. All classes can be delivered in aged care facilities. They can also be held in private home settings for individual participants.

- All classes use carefully selected recorded music. For lessons with individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia, playlists are customised for the individual or group to encourage emotional engagement and memory recall.
